So let's be honest: curtain rods are a complete racket. They're ugly, made of less than subpar materials, and bend if you look at them wrong. Solution: make your own. In an afternoon I made new rod systems for three of our largest windows for less than 9 bucks. The brackets at made out of barn wood I already had and the rods themselves are 1/2 inch EMT electrical conduit cut to fit. They are strong, durable, and, dang it, they look good.
